Disgraced European Commission Official Leaves Office after Flying over Siberia: EADaily

Henrik Hololei, head of the European Commission’s Directorate General for Transport, is stepping down amid the scandal over free rides to Qatar. Writes about it today, March 29, the newspaper Politico.

Hololei, according to the publication, during the period of negotiations on granting Qatar Airways access to the EU domestic market, flew four times at public expense in business class to Qatar. At the same time, he himself had to decide whether there is a conflict of interest in this case or not.

It is noted that this story was the reason for changing the rules for assessing conflict of interest, and the European Commission is conducting an internal investigation into his above-mentioned visits to Doha.

The source of the publication said that the offending official, after the loss of a high chair, will become a political adviser in the European Commission’s department for international partnership.

As reported EADailyHenrik Hololei has previously said that Russia should stop charging foreign airlines for flying over Siberia.
