The Prime Minister is calling the Central Epidemic Council in connection with the unprecedented situation with the spread of two dangerous infectious diseases of animals in the country – smallpox in sheep and goats and plague in livestock small, said BNT.
Since the beginning of the year, 8 outbreaks of smallpox and one outbreak of plague have been detected. The results of the samples taken again at the affected farm near Velingrad are also expected today.
A flock of sheep infected with smallpox in the village of Zhelyo Voivoda is expected to be destroyed today, after laboratory tests confirmed the presence of diseases in the animals, BNR said.
This may happen this morning, when a mobile emergency response unit is also expected to arrive. The Regional Administration announced that the animals will be killed in a humane way, BNR specified.
The entrances and exits of Zhelio voivode village are guarded by the police. It is ensured that trucks and light trucks comply with the ban on the carriage of live animals. Disinfectant straw strips were also made along the road. The infected herd is currently under police guard. There are about 150 sheep. There are already dead animals that have not been disposed of. People in the village said that there would be nothing to grow in their gardens due to the animal diseases that appeared regularly.
All other animals in the village are confined and not allowed to graze freely. They are to be sampled.
By order of the regional governor Chavdar Bozhurski, a three-kilometer protection zone and a ten-kilometer monitoring zone were created around the outbreak of the disease, which includes eight settlements from Sliven and Yambol regions.
