Discussions between management and unions resumed at Logistics Nivelles

A new works council was held on Wednesday at Logistics Nivelles.

A new works council, organized under the Renault law on collective redundancies, was held this Wednesday at Logistics Nivelles. On October 20, when the atmosphere was tense between management and workers’ representatives, the common union front asked that this third meeting not be held before November 10 in order to verify that activity in warehouses has effectively resumed, as the management committed to.

“We are continuing to explore various avenues in order to find solutions to save jobs at Logistics Nivelles.”

This is the case and the discussions took place in a more serene manner, despite the reaffirmed intention by the Kuehne + Nagel group to close the site where they work within a year. 549 workers. The unions have accepted the use of temporary workers and intend to move forward, at the next meeting, on the issue of voluntary departures. “We are continuing to explore various avenues in order to find solutions to save jobs at Logistics Nivelles”, specify the unions. The use of temporary workers should promote the preservation of activity on the site while allowing staff to take their leave and deal with variations in workload. “The objective is for the work to continue as long as possible, for those who wish, on the Nivelles site”, confirms the permanent CNE Didier Lebbe. Who says he is surprised to have learned that the intention of the management was not to make Logistics Nivelles disappear, but to use this name again in the context of the operation of new warehouses in Kampenhout.

For his FGTB colleague Pascal Strube, the management’s request to be able to use temporary workers and thus process larger volumes of merchandise absurdly proves the essential nature of Nivelles Logistics in order to continue supplying Carrefour stores. The next works council will take place on November 24.
