In many German cities, clubs, bars, cinemas and theaters are reopening, but only to people who have been vaccinated or cured against the coronavirus. You cannot enter with only a negative corona test. Some football stadiums, sports clubs and associations also restrict access in this way.
In Germany they put the stamp ‘2G’ on it: vaccinated or cured. In the run-up to the elections on September 26, 2G is an important theme. According to some parties, with 2G you create first and second class citizens, while others call it inevitable that at some point unvaccinated people “can no longer participate in everything”.
‘We are being punished’
“Let’s toast to 2G!” A group of friends is sitting at a bar on the Hamburg Reeperbahn and drinking a round of shots. Even in the infamous nightlife area of Hamburg you can now only go to many bars and clubs after a drink. Most of these friends agree: “I feel safer when everyone is vaccinated,” says one. Another boy calls it a good way to convince vaccination doubters: “That way we can get rid of all measures the fastest.”
One of them grumbles: “I think it’s intense. If someone chooses not to protect themselves, then I think it’s his or her own choice. I don’t mind if they are next to me in the club. vaccinated.”
At the door of Technoclub BKI you will not enter without a digital vaccination certificate and ID. Two girls look a bit taken aback. They are not vaccinated and therefore do not enter anyway. Dishonest, they say: “We are healthy. For almost two years in this pandemic we have done our best not to get infected and now we are being punished for it.”
‘Even had a bomb threat’
In Berlin, the clubs are only allowed to open (indoors) if they implement this 2G rule. In Hamburg, the catering industry can decide for itself whether it wants to be 2G or 3G, i.e. whether they only want to let in vaccinated and tested people or also people with a test. The latter option is a lot less lucrative. Facilities that allow visitors with a negative test entry must close at 11 p.m. Furthermore, fewer people are allowed inside and dancing is not allowed.
