DISCUSSION. Festival after festival cancelled: is summer def…

After Pukkelpop (Hasselt) and the Liberation Party (Deinze) by Tom Van Damme, the son of vaccinologist Pierre, the 2021 edition of the Antilliaanse Feesten (Minderhout) has now also been cancelled. The rules around visitor testing play a crucial role every time. Is summer finally over for you? Or is there something else that can be done in other ways?

“Over the past 3 months we went from hurray, to doubt, and back again. On Monday we announced full of enthusiasm that we would continue. But the continuing uncertainty about validity of tests, rules for foreign visitors, closing time… forces us to make this decision. Believe us, it is very difficult”, says the organization of the Antillean Festivities.

The organization of Pukkelpop, among others, has already reacted similarly. “It’s like telling Wout Van Aert just before the race that he has to drive with one wheel,” it sounded.

Anyone who thought we would get our freedom back this summer is wrong. But do you think it’s finally gone to hell? Or is there something else that can be done?

Join the discussion using the form below. A selection of the reactions will appear in Gazet van Antwerpen on Monday.
