Ajax has no clarity yet about the arrival of Kamaldeen Sulemana. The Amsterdammers still hope that the winger from Southampton will come to the Johan Cruijff Arena, but it is far from certain.
‘We uploaded the transfer into the system just before the transfer limit closed,’ said technical director Alex Kroes on the club website, referring to the closing of the transfer window. ‘But now there is a discussion about whether it was just before or just after the window. It is frustrating if you don’t in control are, so we have to wait and see.’
There is a letter at FIFA to get the transfer of Sulemana through after all. ‘We knew that if we were to sell Stevie (Steven Bergwijn, ed.), we wanted to bring in a replacement. There was a shortlist for that.’
So when the striker moved to Al-Ittihad on the final day of the window, Kroes had to act very quickly. ‘We had to do with the player, his agent and a club deal. And Stevie’s agent also had to come to Amsterdam’, Kroes listed a number of things. ‘And if this remains the selection? Then that’s so. There is still a lot of room for improvement.’
