“It would not be an exaggeration to say that Poles in Ukraine are discriminated against in terms of freedom of religion, access to education in their native language and freedom of speech,” Shinkovsky said.
According to him, the position of Poles in Ukraine is changing “for the worse due to objective and subjective factors.”
He considers one of the factors to be the socio-economic situation that prompts people of Polish origin to emigrate to Ukraine.
“Polish cells in Ukraine are shrinking at an alarming rate, especially among young people,” Shinkovsky said.
At the same time, he calls the second reason the coronavirus pandemic.
“Ukraine ranks second in Europe in mortality from COVID-19, and this affects all groups of the population, in particular the Poles who live there,” the Deputy Foreign Minister of Poland said.
According to him, the subjective factors of the worsening of the situation of the Poles are “the law on the language, which is unfavorable for them, as well as the glorification of people associated with the Volyn tragedy, and the stopping of the exhumation of Polish victims.”
In turn, he added that the Foreign Ministry raised all these problems in negotiations with the Ukrainian side.
