Discovery of Cocaine in White House Raises Concerns and Speculation

Washington. The White House tried on Wednesday to downplay the discovery of cocaine inside the building, saying that the drug was found in an area frequented by outside visitors and that the president and his family were absent.

The Secret Service, in charge of the security of the State authorities, confirmed this Wednesday that the white powder substance found on Sunday in the famous West Wing of the White House was cocaine.

The substance was initially believed to be dangerous and an evacuation was ordered. Security services normally treat any suspicious powdery substance received by post at official buildings as possible chemical or bacteriological attacks.

Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesman for the US Secret Service, stated that an investigation is “ongoing”.

The cocaine find sparked a flurry of speculation in the US media about who might have left the drug behind.

Several right-wing personalities pointed the finger at the president’s son, Hunter Biden, with a past marred by alcoholism and drug addiction.

The former president and candidate for the Republican primaries for the 2024 presidential election, Donald Trump, directly accused the father and son in a message.

“Does anyone really believe that the COCAINE found in the West Wing of the White House, very close to the Oval Office, is for the use of someone other than Hunter and Joe Biden?”, he says on his Truth Social network.

Republican Senator Tom Cotton on Wednesday asked the Secret Service to make public the exact location where the powder was found.

“The American people deserve to know if illegal drugs have been found in an area where confidential information is shared,” he wrote in a letter to the director of the Secret Service.

Proof that the controversy is escalating, journalists present at the meeting between President Joe Biden and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson on Wednesday at the White House asked far more questions about this finding than about Sweden’s possible entry into the NATO.

The White House tried to mitigate the controversy by explaining that the first indications point to a visitor as the owner of the drug.

Presidential spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said the cocaine was found in an area frequently used by outside visitors invited by White House staff.

Before entering certain areas of the building, these visitors must leave their phones in lockers. It was in one of those lockers that the cocaine was found.

He also insisted that the Biden family was not at the White House for the entire weekend.

The spokeswoman ended questions on the subject by saying: “We are confident that the Secret Service will get to the bottom of this story.”
