The vast majority of commuters and visitors to Lennep will probably first think of the kiosk and the bus stop when they talk about the “district center”. Yet another monument with an interesting history is hidden behind it. The district house at Kölner Strasse 82, which was planned and built between 1887 and 1889 by the Cologne-born government master builder Franz Schwechten, has been on the list of monuments in the city of Remscheid since 1985. Incidentally, Schwechten is also a famous master builder beyond the district hall. The native of Cologne, who works in Berlin, is best known for building the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin.
