Discovering the Hidden Art of Public Spaces: ‘Art from Next Door’ in Salzburg’s Lehen Neighborhood

One usually encounters it unconsciously and unexpectedly: there is art in public space in many places, but it is hardly noticed. Sculptures in the courtyard, a facade sgraffito, fountains, statues and sculptures characterize our cityscape. Very few people know about the time of origin or the artist. A walk through the city explains the works.

“Art from next door” is aimed at everyone who lives in the area or who visits regularly, but also at all other Salzburg residents who are interested in the subject or who have something to say about the works of art.

On June 15, the Stadtgalerie offers a Grätzl walk to works of art in the Lehen neighborhood across backyards, parks, squares and side streets.

The meeting point is at 4 p.m. at the residents’ service in Lehen, Strubergasse 27A.
