The European Heritage Days take place this year on Saturday September 16 and Sunday September 17, 2023.
The opportunity to (re)discover the local heritage: the sub-prefecture of Mortagne-au-Perche (Orne), the museum of the philosopher Alain, the Town Hall and its gardens, the Saint-André Crypt or even the chapel Saint-François and its cloister.
But this year, the Mortagne Patrimoine association is innovating and offering two new circuits in the streets of the town.
Discovering the chapels
The first concerns the chapels of Mortagne-au-Perche. Departing from the Hôtel de Longueil, visitors will be able to discover the private chapel of the Bignon school (built in 1880), the Saint-Joseph chapel (rue des Tailles) and finish with the Saint-François chapel (in the enclosure of the hospital center).
The second circuit takes visitors to the heart of the suburbs of Mortagne. “The goal is to promote local heritage, which does not only include castles or chapels,” underlines Vincent Lebel, president of Mortagne Patrimoine.
The circuit starts from the Pissot postern, towards the old feudal mound, then along the ramparts and the Faubourg Saint-Eloi where a whole district takes shape. “For the occasion, residents will open their gardens,” points out Vincent Lebel.
