Discovering the Beauty of Hérault: Visiting Saint Adrien Garden and More

55 members of the association boarded a bus to take the direction of Béziers with a first stop in Servian to visit the famous “Saint Adrien” garden, elected favorite garden of the French in 2013 during a lively France 2 broadcast by Stéphane Bern. It was the owner of the place who received the group and guided the visit, telling the beautiful story of this disused Middle Ages quarry transformed little by little by a couple of enthusiasts who observed and listened to nature who wanted to s install there. It is a green setting placed on volcanic stones with four basins, very colorful and fragrant flowers (surfinias, broom, roses, valerian, etc.), as well as many tree species (pines, almond trees, azéroliers, willows and many sure of the olive trees…) today fully blossomed, which makes it a very spectacular and highly prized site.

After wandering around the garden for nearly two hours, the group headed for Agde for lunch, then embarked on a boat at Grau d’Agde for a mini cruise to Marseillan. The captain (a local child) presented throughout the trip all the richness of the Agathois heritage on the Hérault river before joining the Canal du Midi and passing the unique round lock with three gates to reach the Etang de Thau and its oyster beds, before disembarking at the port of Marseillan to reach a new exceptional setting: the large Noilly Prat house, where various vermouths are produced. There too, it was a passionate person who accompanied the participants to this authentic place, before awakening their taste buds and wishing them a good return to Bram.

The next meeting for members is for Tuesday, June 13 around a beautiful paella. It will be at “l’Espace Idéal” and the meal will be hosted by Laurent Bergeaud. Don’t forget to bring cutlery. And just before the summer break, on Tuesday June 27, an afternoon game will be offered in the Charles Cros room from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
