How the ancient people lived
This year, before closing the premises on Brīvības boulevard at the end of May 32 and moving to the Riga Palace, the National History Museum of Latvia is organizing a series of events, focusing mostly on the exhibition of Latvian history, which will not be accessible for some time.
Families with children are invited to the “Little History Explorers” series of classes, in order to assume the role of researchers in five classes and learn about the stages of Latvian history, their inhabitants, the tools they used and other objects.
In the first lesson – Saturday, January 27, at 12.00 “How did ancient people live?” little history buffs will get to know the oldest period in Latvia’s history and look for answers to questions about what they knew, how they dressed and adorned themselves, in which houses our ancestors lived in the distant past. Not only the leader of the lesson will help you find the answers, but also many objects found in the archaeological excavations – arrows, harpoons, axes, fragments of dishes, weapons, jewelry and others.
Children will get to know the life of ancient people by working practically with replicas of archaeological objects: pottery fragments, flint tools, bronze axes, 3D models of Stone Age objects – harpoons, fishing hooks and arrowheads.
The lesson will take place at LNVM Brīvības bulvāri 32, in the exposition of Latvian history. Participation in the class, as well as entrance to the museum and viewing of expositions and exhibitions on the last Saturday of every month, is free of charge.
Next lessons for children: February 24, March 30, April 27 and May 25.
On the other hand, LNVM Dauderu department (7 Zāģeru Street, Sarkandaugava) on January 27 from From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., interested parties are invited to enjoy the atmosphere of the luxurious mansion of the end of the 19th century for free and view the museum’s main exhibition, as well as enjoy a leisurely walk in the Dauderu garden.
at 14.00 meeting with the artist Iveta Schmidt at her exhibition “Those in motion”. The exhibition includes the artist’s figurative paintings and paintings on silk made in the author’s technique, which reflect moments from the daily life of ballet dancers (pictured).
The works for the exhibition “In Motion” were created over two years. During the creation process, the author also had the opportunity to get to know the everyday life of a ballet artist at the Latvian National Opera and Ballet Theater, both during rehearsals and behind the scenes of performances, and to record it with an analog photo film camera, but the obtained footage was later used in the creation of visual works.
The authors are captivated by the grace, aesthetics and subtlety of ballet movements, in their works, ballet artists seem to be captured in flight, even in a state of weightlessness, making one admire the unlimited possibilities of the human body.
However, the artist emphasizes that the art of movement only seems to be easy on the stage, but in fact requires physically hard and complex work, discipline and great concentration.
After that, you will have the opportunity to go on a tour of the Dowder exposition.
