Discovering Amy: A Glimpse into the Life and Legacy of Amy Winehouse through Her Writings and Art

London (AP) – The parents of the late singer Amy Winehouse (1983-2011) find some comfort in their old notes after her death. Excerpts from her notebooks, as well as photos and calendar entries, are to appear in a new book at the end of August. The British newspaper “The Telegraph” published the first excerpts from “Amy Winehouse – In Her Words”.

“After Amy’s death, we began going through her writings and drawings, collected from her early childhood,” wrote Janis Winehouse-Collins and Mitch Winehouse. “And we’ve started to better understand how, despite her easy-going demeanor, she’s worked on her talent over the years.”

The article shows, for example, children’s photos, a Mother’s Day card or notes from their youth. “I’m maybe a bit eccentric and loud, also funny, but only because not many people know me,” it says, for example.

Singer died of alcohol poisoning at the age of 27

Winehouse (“Rehab”, “Back to Black”) died of alcohol poisoning at the age of 27. The musician would have turned 40 in about a month, on September 14th.

The joy of going through Amy’s work takes away some of the pain of losing her, her parents wrote. “Twelve years after her death, we still have to smile when we look at these drawings and doodles, just like Amy did.” Of course you can’t sugarcoat Amy’s story that she was dependent. The addiction stole her life – and her Amy. “But these are times we don’t think too much about.”
