The desire to create cartoons from Hayao Miyazaki arose in childhood. He saw “The Legend of the White Snake” – the first Japanese color cartoon, released in 1958 – and realized his calling. The family in which the future famous animator grew up was wealthy – his father served as director of a company that produced parts for military aircraft. True, Miyazaki’s house had its own grief – the mother suffered from Pott’s disease, a form of tuberculosis that affects the spine, and was bedridden for several years. Hayao admitted in his memoirs and interviews that he escaped from the harsh reality in fictional worlds. In addition to manga, he read literature and hoped to become like the characters in his favorite books in the future. Researchers of Miyazaki’s work say that in his cartoons there are many biographical details that are not obvious to a wide audience.
