Books and films created in the fantasy genre are replete with all kinds of magical creatures. Elves, dragons, basilisks and other mythical characters are found here at almost every turn. A striking example is the Harry Potter series of books written by JK Rowling. On the pages of Potter you can find detailed descriptions of a wide variety of fantastic creatures invented by the writer herself. True, people familiar with the myths of different countries will still be struck by obvious references to ancient legends. For example, in the novel “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” boggarts are mentioned – creatures that can turn into the most powerful human fears. Rowling borrowed the name of these ghostly substances from the myths of ancient England. In them, boggarts are spirits that lived in people’s houses. Unlike boggarts in the Harry Potter universe, they were not very dangerous, but they loved to play pranks. For example, they pulled blankets off sleeping people or hid spoons, glasses and other small objects. The most serious offense that such a spirit could commit was to kidnap a child, which is why children in England were frightened with boggarts for a long time.
