TV Herbeck once again broke new ground when it included walking football in its range of offers on February 15th. In the meantime, an illustrious group of female and male players has come together. According to club chairman Roge Feldermann, the age of the participants ranges from 13 to 65 years. But what exactly is this new sport?
Walking football is suitable for all men and women who can no longer practice normal (indoor) sports (soccer, handball, basketball) due to knee problems, for example, but not dynamic ball sports in the community and in the third half after the sporting one want to give up exercise. “As a rule, this affects the middle to older generation, whereby age does not play a decisive role. Teenagers and young adults are also welcome,” reports Feldermann. When it comes to the rules of the game, it is important that you can only walk, not run. The ball may not be played up to hip height. There is no goalkeeper. Excessive physical contact should be avoided.
“Occasionally we also train with music in the background (“shake your bacon”),” reports Feldermann and laughs. If you look at the corresponding videos on YouTube, for example, you will quickly see how high the fun factor is. At the same time, you shouldn’t think that you can do it without sweating. “On the contrary: After training, you’re happy to be handed a chilled drink,” says Feldermann and smiles.
Anyone who feels like trying something new is welcome on one of the training days – regardless of whether they are members or non-members of TV Herbeck. “It doesn’t hurt to just come by and take part,” says Feldermann. And: As with darts, table tennis and futsal, TV Herbeck is the only club in Radevormwald that offers walking football and therefore has a unique selling point. Training The walking football group meets for training every Wednesday from 8 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. Training takes place in the sports hall on Lessingstrasse.
