Thanks to the fact that Ubisoft was not afraid to experiment, Far Cry 2 has many interesting mechanics that cannot be found in other versions of this shooter series. The game is currently available for less than PLN 12.

Being a bit snarky, you could refer to Far Cry 6 as “Far Cry 3.3”. Starting with “3”, the subsequent main installments of the Ubisoft series – when we look at them as a whole, without delving into individual new mechanics – are very similar to each other.

However, this was not always the case. The first two installments of the series had a slightly different formula. They are still first-person shooters set in an open world or – in the case of the first game – in semi-open locations, but they are much more daring.

Far Cry 2 stands out the most from the entire series in this respect. Ubisoft was not afraid to experiment, thanks to which the game features many unique mechanics. If we don’t take care of our weapon, it may jam at the most inopportune moment – or even explode in our hands. Every 30-40 minutes, the protagonist suffers attacks of malaria, which he was infected with at the beginning of the game (the action takes place in Africa). So we need to carry pills with us to relieve the symptoms.

There are more of this type of mechanic in Far Cry 2. However, if you haven’t played this game, I won’t reveal all of them now – discover them for yourself. When considering a possible purchase, keep in mind that Far Cry 2 has divided players quite a bit. Some say it is monotonous and has a bland plot. Others see the untapped potential of the story and the not very interesting side quests, but they appreciate the atmosphere, the beautiful – for 2008 – open world and the multitude of unusual mechanics I mentioned above.

Hence only 77% of positive reviews on Steam (out of over 14,000) and average ratings on Metacritic.com oscillating around 6.4–7.2 out of 10 (depending on version i platforms). It is worth adding that the average score from 7,554 of you, readers of GRYOnline.pl, is 8 out of 10 (for the PC version). Therefore, it can be said that, due to its severity, Far Cry 2 better suited the tastes of Polish gamers.

If you are going to try this African version of the series, know that it is quite long. Completing the main story occupies on average about 17 hours. People who like to “max” games will have to spend more than twice as much time.
