Discover the Twin Cities: Museum Month in Venlo, Krefeld, Roermond, and Mönchengladbach

Culture has no national borders. When it comes to literature, but also exhibition topics, the cities on both sides of the German-Dutch border have been following common paths for many years in order to shed light on exciting projects from different perspectives. New is a museum month that the cities of Venlo and Krefeld as well as Roermond and Mönchengladbach are offering together for the first time from November 10th to December 10th.

“Our border region has great cultural treasures to offer that we don’t have to hide in the surrounding area. During Museum Month we all now have the opportunity to discover or re-experience these wonderful places for the first time at a very fair price. This project also shows that together we can better leverage our strengths as a region,” says Mayor Frank Meyer.

A total of 13 museums in the Netherlands and Germany are taking part and can be visited within four weeks with just one ticket. Tickets are valid from Friday, November 10th and cost 25 euros per person. They can be purchased in all houses. Tickets go on sale on Thursday, November 2nd, the city announced.

We want as many people as possible to get to know the twin cities. That’s why there will be a free bus transfer between Venlo and Krefeld and between Roermond and Mönchengladbach on the weekend of November 11th and 12th.

What do people from Krefeld experience when they travel to their twin city Venlo with the ticket: They can visit the Museum van Bommel van Dam, the Limburgs Museum, the Keramiekcentrum Tiendschuur Tegelen, the Missiemuseum Steyl and the Limburgs Schutterij Museum. In Roermond the Cuypershuis is participating and in Mönchengladbach the Abteiberg Museum and the Schloss Rheydt Museum as well as the Textil-Technikum are taking part.

Krefeld’s flagships in this campaign are the exhibitions in the German Textile Museum (with the newly opened exhibition on bourgeois clothing luxury in the 18th century), in the Burg Linn Museum – with its Archaeological Museum, Linn Castle and the hunting lodge – and in the Krefeld art museums its three venues Haus Lange, Haus Esters and the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum, where a large exhibition of work by New Yorker Sarah Morris is currently on view. The city points out that children and young people up to the age of 18 generally have free entry to all Krefeld museums.

This is how the bus transfer works on November 11th and 12th: The bus leaves from Krefeld to Venlo at the main train station at 11 a.m. and is scheduled to return at 5:30 p.m. The number of participants per bus is limited; registration is required by email to info@limburgsmuseum.nl. “If you are interested, please indicate for which day and which bus and with how many people you would like to take part,” says the city. A reservation is only final once it is confirmed. The total offerings of the participating museums are below www.museummaand.eu.

The Museum Month is made possible by the Interreg Germany-Nederland program and co-financed by the European Union (EU) and the program partners.
