Talk about Blue Flag is synonymous with quality. When the summer period arrives, the Spanish coasts are filled with vacationers eager to find rest, fun, sunbathing and sea and of course a good place to feel comfortable. In Pontevedra, in this 2023, we will be able to enjoy a total of 58 beaches with that distinctive.
This award is by no means permanent, in fact, it is awarded year after year, which means that the locations have to take care of the area and improve the facilities and the environment so as not to lose said gimping. It is a distinction that is granted annually at the international level by the Fundación Europea de Educación Ambiental (FEE, Foundation for Environmental Education)and it does so to the beaches and marinas that meet a series of requirements in their facilities and in their accesses and, in turn, make great efforts to guarantee the quality of the surroundings, the environment and sustainable development in terms of tourist resources are concerned.
This year Pontevedra and its coastline have been awarded 58 Blue Flagsonly two less than its historical maximum (2014) and the same as in 2021.
Portocelo Beach, Marín (Pontevedra)
A beautiful enclave located in the town of marin. Sheltered cove in the heart of the Ría de Pontevedra, with fine golden sand, but with its cold waters, like almost all on the Galician coast. It is in the city center and its accesses are unbeatable, with an access ramp, support staff for the disabled and chairs adapted for the bathroom for people with reduced mobility. Their waters are calm and conducive to bathing without danger. On site you can practice water sports such as skiing, windsurfing or jet skiing.
Santa Maria Beach, Baiona (Pontevedra)
In one of the most touristic and popular locations in Galicia, Baiona, we find the beach of Santa María. It has almost four kilometers in length that are divided into six sandbanks which are usually calm as they are protected from the winds and sea currents. It is an ideal beach for long walks on its fine golden sand. Its accesses are unbeatable and it has adapted infrastructures (amphibian chair, assisted bathroom, etc.). They can also be performed water sports and at the back of the beach there are plenty of places to have lunch.
Menduiña Beach, Cangas do Morrazo (Pontevedra)
Idyllic Blue Flag beach whose sandy, fine and golden, it has the shape of a shell. Very good access, but parking becomes difficult as the day progresses. Their turquoise and calm waters are ideal for enjoying baths with children. In addition to the services available on a beach of these characteristics (showers, lifeguards, restaurants…), it has an amphibious chair for those who need it for bathing.
Playa A Lanzada – O Espineiro, Sanxenxo (Pontevedra)
Probably, La Lanzada, is one of the best beaches in the European Atlantic, one of the most emblematic in Spain and which could be included in any classification of the 10 best beaches in our country. It belongs to the municipalities of Sanxenxo and O Grove. It is 2.5 kilometers long and in many places almost 100 meters wide. It has final, golden sand and behind it is a beautiful promenade on wooden boards. It has an infinite number of services and its accessibility is unbeatable, as well as having a massive parking lot that fills up in the months of July and August.
