Illustrator Marie Doazan created the new heritage poster for the city of Nîmes which will be used as the cover of the next tourist guide.
With the Nîmes s’illustre festival, the Nîmes tourist office takes advantage of the talent of illustrators to offer a new poster each year to promote the city of Antonins to tourists. Nîmes Tourisme is part of the tradition of tourist and cultural posters published at the beginning of the last century by the railway company to promote the “Paris-Lyon-Marseille” railway line.
In 2023, the heritage poster was produced by Marie Doazan, an illustrator from Marseille who collaborates with the Nîmes s’illustre festival. An artist inspired by the poster artists of the mid-20th century. Its graphic signature is recognizable thanks to contrasting colors and clean shapes that overlap like collages, plays of light and shadow.
“To make her radiate like a divinity in her own right”
“The goal is to really highlight the Maison Carrée, a central monument of the city and to make it shine like a divinity in its own right. With also a nod to the arenas and the Tour Magne”, confides the artist who had already drawn up this drawing last year and who made some modifications. A poster already on sale at the tourist office for 10 euros and which will appear on the cover of the next tourist guide.
“The creation of this poster testifies to the desire of Nîmes Tourisme to be a partner of the many events that contribute to the attractiveness of Nîmes: at the beginning of the year with the Flamenco festival, the Nîmes Urban Trail or the Roman Days and today today with the Nîmes s’Illustre festival »concludes Xavier Douais, elected delegate for Tourism.
