Abu Dhabi (WAM)
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi revealed the second series of commissioned light artworks within the framework of the “Manar Abu Dhabi” activities, after the distinguished launch ceremony of the first edition of the “Manar Abu Dhabi” exhibition, which was held in November, where Al Samaliyya Island in Abu Dhabi will be illuminated by… A number of works, including a series of art installations presented by the international art group TeamLab. This immersive experience will transform Mangrove Island into a dynamic art space, where light and environment interact in a symphony of colors and sounds.
These major commissions include “Interaction between Subtle Worlds – Solid Colors of Light”, where oval shapes glow through this masterpiece and resonate through sound and light as they interact. While the artwork, “Columns Dancing with the Wind,” features structures moving in the air, exploring the harmony between structure and flow. “A Huge Frozen Spark” forms a captivating installation work of art, where we witness the lasting effect of oval shapes, through changing color and rhythm, and their interaction with environmental stimuli such as wind and human touch.
Through its works, TeamLab aims to transcend the boundaries within our perception of time, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to experience the continuity of life and the interaction between nature and digital art.
The artwork “Tripolis”, presented by artist Ayman Zidani, aims to explore the fusion of nature and technology, examines the relationship between humans and nature, blurs the boundaries between different forms of life and encourages a deeper understanding of our connections with the land and other species in the contemporary context of the Gulf. While the artwork “Directions, United Arab Emirates” signed by artist Mohammed Kazim symbolizes the spirit of unity and endless potential in the United Arab Emirates, presents a circular composition of digital coordinates, and embodies the spirit of cooperation and the stages of development of the country.
In the Jubail Mangrove Park on Jubail Island, the artwork “One with the Soil, One with the Cloud” by artist Ren Wu captivates viewers as she uses an array of lights to depict the life cycle of mangroves, highlighting the fleeting nature of existence and presenting a distinct aerial view of the living world.
Finally, artist Alaa Idris, through her artistic work “The Rising”, highlights the new emerging cultural district, and reimagines Saadiyat Island with the new Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Museum in the background, as this work provides a new perspective on this distinctive, growing destination.
These new artistic additions, within the framework of the first edition of the broader “Manar Abu Dhabi” exhibition, form part of more than 35 commissioned works of art dedicated to the sites, signed by more than 20 local, regional and international artists.
