On the Mönchsberg, in the middle of Salzburg’s old town, the “Freyschlössl” is a somewhat different kind of property awaiting the new owner. Above all, the castle should impress with its spectacular location with a breathtaking panoramic view, lots of history and a modern twist.

The “Freyschlössl” looks back on a long history. Parts of the property were already built in the 12th century, the former defense tower dates back to the 14th century. It owes its name to the Salzburg merchant Carl von Frey, who acquired the tower in 1862 and had it renovated in the style of a knight’s castle using building material quarried from the neighboring rock.
From 2010 to 2012, the historic building was completely renovated and expanded with a modern extension and glass dome roof. The unique ensemble now has a site area of around 13,456 square meters and consists of various structures: cube, tower, half-timbered building and west wing. The extensive park also includes the historic “Tyrnitz” and an outbuilding.

A central hall on the ground floor of the main building connects the individual components, and all floors can be reached via a glass elevator. In addition, the Schlössl, which is under monument protection, has terraces in all directions and several balconies with views. On a total floor space of 876 square meters there are twelve rooms including a historic tower room and numerous historic elements such as an old drawbridge, which have also been restored.
