Not without the intervention of USSR officials.
The story of a prop from the film “Kin-dza-dza!” deserves its screenplay. The mysterious intergalactic transport from the cult dystopia Danelia has become the film’s most valuable artifact. A very interesting story is connected with these pepelats.
Despite the complexities and many incomprehensible moments, both Russian and foreign viewers fell in love with science fiction. Americans were especially interested in the painting, and some even wanted to buy the legendary pepelats.
Hollywood filmmakers tortured the director with questions about how he managed to create such special effects. Danelia joked that he didn’t resort to any tricks, everything happened for real and the army gave him pepelats. To all questions about how to start a colossus, the director denied and stated that for details one should contact the USSR Ministry of Defense. Americans believed in the bicycle and admired the invention of Soviet technology.
They had the idea to redeem a unique artifact at any cost. Restless Americans actually turned to the Union authorities with a request to rent out valuable props.
The Ministry of Defense has contacted Daneliya seeking clarification. Luckily they liked the joke and the director had no problems. The rusty pepelat itself ended up in a landfill, where it was dismantled.
