It opened its doors discreetly last Friday, just to take the time to get used to it. In the din of car traffic on the road to Lorient, Club Citron wants to stand out. Its managers present this restaurant bar as a “sports guinguette” with a new concept in Rennes. What is really hiding behind the impressive orange sheet metal facade? 20 Minutes makes you discover this novelty.
Glued to the KFC on the road to Lorient, the establishment is a hybrid concept mixing bar and restaurant. Its managers hope to capture the employees of the artisanal zone for lunch and for after work but also to attract the inhabitants of the periphery in search of a spacious place to have a drink or two. “Here, you can come for a drink, eat, play shuffleboard, board games,” explains director Julien Leray.

Accustomed to the great tables of this country, this fan of Stade Rennais agreed to set up the establishment on behalf of Birati. Led by David Ozdemir, this group has around fifteen establishments in Rennes such as the Champ-Jacquet bar, the Montfort and several bistros near Sainte-Anne. “It’s the first time the group has left the city centre, it’s a strategic choice,” assures the director of Club Citron. A choice which also aims to compete with large structures such as Avec, in the ZI southeast, the BDS in Vern-sur-Seiche or the WhiteFields in Cesson-Sévigné.
“Rather a place for Sunday sportsmen”
In a very urbanized space, the establishment has on the other hand little to do with a guinguette. As for the sporting aspect, it is in the decoration that you will find it with an athletics track drawn on the ground and a tiled universe reminiscent of a swimming pool. “It’s more of a place for Sunday sports enthusiasts,” admits its director with a smile.
Major sporting events will be broadcast there, as will all Stade Rennais matches. From the terrace of the establishment, you could even hear the clamor of the public of Roazhon Park as you are close to it.
