New York is not only the city that never sleeps, it is also the city that is constantly renewing itself. Whether it’s your first or thirtieth visit, every neighborhood in the Big Apple is full of new places to discover. It’s not just the latest restaurants and new boutiques dotting the streets from the Bronx to Staten Island. There is also talk of huge artistic centers, cultural districts and also leisure venues located on the Hudson River. It is in Manhattan that these exceptional new places abound. You can discover them in the same day by following this reasonable route, crossing part of Midtown and Downtown. Not to be missed on your next trip to New York!
Start your morning by heading to the city’s new pier, Gansevoort Peninsula. Neighbor of Little Islandan elevated park perched on the Hudson River, the peninsula was inaugurated in October with a major asset: Manhattan’s first public beach. Its 2.2 hectares include a long strip of sand from New Jersey, a salt marsh, sports fields and water access for non-motorized boats. Sit under an umbrella and admire the skyline of Lower Manhattan.
This first activity will certainly whet your appetite. Walk north along the Hudson River Park to Pier 57 where you will find this old maritime terminal, now transformed into a food hall. The latter highlights independent, minority- or women-owned catering businesses. To try: Nom Wah’s chicken dumpling soup; MotherShuckers gumbo; the tacos of roast meat, or grilled meat, from Mijo; and an sour beer mango, sour beer, from Harlem Hops.
Around the corner is the start of the High Line of New York: an urban park along an old elevated railway line. Previously it only extended from the Meatpacking District to Hudson Yards, but in 2023 it was extended further east along 30th and 31st streets to Moynihan Train Hall. Follow the tree-lined path north, before crossing the almost 80 meter wooden bridge of the Moynihan Connectormade from Nootka cypress.
