Conducting an investigation in the bowels of a medieval castle: this will seduce families lacking inspiration to occupy young and old. This proposal is to be picked up in Luttange, halfway between Metz and Thionville, where the youth of the village made the bet of developing an escape game in the square tower of the medieval castle two years ago. Code name: The Last Secret.

The local history of the places made it possible to release a solid scenario, between historical account and well brought fiction. The result: nearly 1,250 people have tested this escape game since 2021. This impressive figure has logically forced the game’s instigators to review the scenario, staging, puzzles and mechanics for the summer of 2023.

The little stories in the big one

This second chapter is called The Curse of the Dragons. The players this time follow in the footsteps of Jean-François Didier d’Attel de Luttange, the best known of the lords who occupied the castle. During his lifetime, this scholarly annuitant accumulated an impressive library and carried out work on the world of arts, literature and mathematics. The enigma of the season is to discover what curse hides within this accumulation of works. The participants (from 3 to 6 players) have one hour to find the key to the mystery and the one that will free them from the places.

One for all…

From the writing of the script to the design of the puzzles and the sets, nothing was left to chance. The Rural Families association bears the paternity of the game. Mathieu Bauer, a young thirty-year-old from Luttange expatriated in the Paris region, took charge of the scenario by plunging headlong into the historical archives and even the university work carried out around the lords. The municipality provided assistance with logistics; the association Friends of the castle too. The inhabitants of the village donated trinkets and old furniture to dress the rooms of the square tower.

What was initially a “simple” business to occupy the young people of the area has moved on to another dimension. The public came from everywhere to test this new proposal; feedback has been excellent. This season, two game masters have been recruited, which doubles the opening slots until the end of September. The game is aimed primarily at families, but the level of difficulty can be adapted to the demands of more seasoned gamers.
