The Jardin de l’Arquebuse is an original structure for understanding and sharing scientific knowledge on biodiversity. In the heart of the Jardin de l’Arquebuse (5 hectares, listed as a Historic Monument, labeled Ecojardin). It brings together 3 entities dedicated to biodiversity, visited by more than 130,000 visitors a year: the planetarium, the natural history museum (benefiting from the designation “Musée de France”) and the botanical garden.

The “Biodiversity – Jardin de l’Arquebuse” Department, placed within the Delegated General Management for Climate Transition, leads actions on the territory aimed at developing knowledge and taking into account biodiversity by all actors. and residents, relying on scientific and technical partners, community services and local actors.
It organizes on the site of the Arquebuse temporary exhibitions and various events for all audiences and initiates numerous actions “outside the walls” directly involving the inhabitants and local partners in various participatory operations in favor of urban biodiversity.

Within the multidisciplinary “Expertise, knowledge sharing and citizen mobilization” team made up of 10 agents, with varied profiles and skills (naturalias collections, “flora” and “fauna/invertebrates” expertise, design and production of exhibitions, of events and mediations), the mission of scientific mediation, currently composed of 3 referent agents (themes: garden, soils, participative sciences), is a strong challenge for the Management on the part of:
– the very essence of scientific mediation, of raising awareness of the active participation of inhabitants in favor of the preservation of nature in the city,
– the diversity of the themes addressed and approaches (sharing of knowledge on biodiversity/ecosystems, gardening practices, participatory science, mobilization of inhabitants, actions on the Jardin de l’Arquebuse site and throughout the territory. .),
– the diversity of the target audiences: school audience (kindergarten to high school, 22,000 schoolchildren/year), peri-extra-school, family/intergenerational audience, social centres/neighborhood centres, audiences far from contact with nature. .
