Discover the Idyllic Beauty of Möckmühl in Jagsttal with this Hiking Route

Möckmühl is attractive with its idyllic location in the Jagsttal and its idyllic, medieval half-timbered town. The historic town center with its castle still looks like it was drawn by Merian in 1643

The first part of the hike runs in a beautiful forest area, luckily this is also where the ascent of the tour takes place. Then we hike back through the completely flat Jagsttal. In a few places you have a view of the idyllic river. Afterwards, the half-timbered paradise Möckmühl offers itself for a stop

Route length: about 14.8 kilometers

Ascents and descents: around 250 meters each

Duration: about 4.5 hours

Directions: A81 to the Möckmühl exit, then on to the village (access to the sports fields). For the GPS: Züttlinger Straße 1, GPS coordinates 49.322216, 9.364572. There are various other parking spaces in Möckmühl, as well as in Widdern.

Public transport: Train to Möckmühl (info www.efa-bw.de).

It’s this way

We go from the car park mentioned or one of the other car parks to Züttlinger Straße south of the Jagst. There, behind the path that leads through the Jagsttal, the Lehlestraße branches off. We follow it uphill with the blue bar hiking sign. We always go straight ahead until the sign in front of house no. 111 points us to the left. After the residential area we walk briefly through meadows, then we come into the forest.

Now the path climbs more or less steeply or runs partly flat. Finally we turn left at a crossing path, from now on we will be accompanied by the noise of the highway for a while.

After a few minutes, after a stream incision, we follow the hiking sign pointing to the left. Now it falls for a while. Before another creek incision, the wide forest path pulls to the left, but we are immediately referred to a set of stairs on the right. On it we go down to this stream incision, where we keep to the left, now again on a wide path.

Always following the signs, we soon pass under the motorway. Our path then continues to the left, but soon describes a right turn. Now the highway noise is also quieter. We follow the next crossroads to the left and come to a small asphalt road. On it we leave the forest to the left. From now on we have a magnificent view down into the Jagsttal.

A little later we pass a shelter with a barbecue area and tables and benches, the Burkhardtsruhe. Continuing downhill, we leave the brick hut on the left and come to the crossing of the L 1047. We follow it down in the direction of Widdern.

Shortly thereafter we follow the cycle path sign to the left in the direction of “Möckmühl”. There is parking on the right side of the road. Since you don’t see too much of the Jagst on this hike, you can make a detour straight ahead to the bridge over the river; he offers here a beautiful idyllic sight.

Otherwise we walk parallel to the river on the Jagsttalweg. However, you cannot go directly to him. Shortly before going over a bridge to the right to Ruchsen, you will find a natural swimming area on the Jagst.

But we hike further on the Jagsttalweg and soon reach our starting point again.

Map tip: Since it is always possible that paths are closed or difficult to walk on due to forest work or weather and storm damage, it is advisable to take a map with you.
