What did Seligenstadt look like around 400 years ago? How did the city wall run, which was built for security reasons in times of war? The copper engravings by the artist Matthäus Merian (*1593) show this very impressively. In addition, there are many other exciting details to be discovered on the historically significant works of art.

The engravings have now been handed over to the RegioMuseum by the Sparkasse Langen-Seligenstadt (SLS) as a permanent loan in order to make them accessible to the public. In addition to Seligenstadt, the works also show Hanau-Steinheim, Aschaffenburg and Miltenberg.

“We are very pleased to expand our exhibition with these exhibits. The insights into the history and development of the city and region are very important not only for tourists, but also for many locals,” emphasized Marcel Subtil and Sabrina Holzmann at the handover.

Already in the Middle Ages, the local region and the neighboring areas belonged to lively metropolises. In terms of art history, the engravings are cultural assets that give an impression of what urban life was like during the Thirty Years’ War.

The SLS is involved in a variety of ways in the Offenbach district. This also includes the promotion of art and culture – a special concern of the Sparkasse since its beginnings. More on www.sls-direkt.de/de/home/ihre-spar-kasse/stiftungen.html.
