A double objective motivates the army, represented in Thionville by the 40th signal regiment, to open its usually well-guarded doors to the public. To make visitors discover during this rare moment the face of its soldiers and the equipment they handle, and to encourage the commitment of future soldiers.
This Saturday, the 40th signal regiment led by Colonel David Kaufmann resumed its open house operation, the last edition of which dated back to 2017, and which can boast of popular success with, at the height of its attendance, 5 000 onlookers crossing the gates of the Jeanne-d’Arc district.
Equipment and demonstrations
“An opportunity to discover certain equipment in service with the 40th RT and within other army units, such as the Griffon, a recent fully digitized machine loaned by the 1st RI of Sarrebourg, the César gun, flagship of our artillery , telecommunications equipment, light armored vehicles, weapons, vehicles of the Luxembourg armed force,” said Colonel David Kaufmann.
The opportunity also “to attend dynamic demonstrations, of hand-to-hand combat in reaction to an improvised explosive device, but also firefighters, customs dogs. »
Also on the program, numerous entertainment stands, such as the obstacle course and the night vision course, airsoft shooting, ponies, remote-controlled cars…
“Fusional attachment between the City and its regiment”
Invited to speak at the official inauguration in the morning, Mayor Pierre Cuny recalled “the close attachment that binds the City of Thionville and its regiment. A link that has been in place since the arrival of the 40th RT in the early 1980s. This moment is also for me the moment to express to the armed forces our deep solidarity with regard to the present danger on our European soil, 2000 km from us. This day is a way of uniting us around you and the men and women who make up this regiment. »
Above all, the mayor finally wanted to “thank ‘the 40’ who has fully invested in life in Thionville. This Sunday, the regiment is once again at work, with the organization of its 2e variegated race, the Color Run, in which at least 1,000 participants should take part.
