Discover the Best Shopping Spots in New York City

In Soho, a bourgeois bohemian eldorado

A stroll through the neighborhood is a must. For the charm of its cobbled streets and cast iron buildings. And for shopping in trendy designer boutiques. Take a tour at l’Atelier Adler (our photo at the top of the article), where designer Jonathan Adler sells his furniture and decorative objects, in a whimsical style inspired by pop art. Among which are terracotta trinkets made by the master himself behind his potter’s wheel.

Also go through Reformation, the cult sustainable fashion label founded by Californian Yael Aflalo. Romantic dresses, floral blouses, smocked tops made from recycled materials.

Then enter in Khaite, a star New York brand, which has just opened its first store. “The best representative of the American ‘cool girl’ right now, according to le New York Times, her stylist Catherine Holstein is one of the favorite fashion designers of stars, from Katie Holmes to Kendall Jenner. His clothes, chic without seeming to be, are at the price of the hype: jeans above 400 dollars, other pieces at 1,000 dollars and more.

Lovers of original gifts know the MoMa Store, but that of Cooper Hewitt, an excellent design museum, has nothing to envy. Tableware, jewellery, decoration… The range is varied, neat, from established designers and emerging talents. From Philippe Starck’s lemon squeezer to Eva Zeisel’s salt and pepper shaker duo, from pretty notebooks to printed umbrellas at low prices: so many souvenirs that you won’t see in an airport shop.

Nostalgic Streetwear in Lower Manhattan

If there’s a queue in front of the store, it’s because Aimé Leon Dore (ALD for short) is the menswear label that everyone is snapping up, especially the limited-edition New Balance sneakers. Designer Teddy Santis, who founded the brand in 2014 (in which LVMH Luxury Ventures has a stake) draws inspiration from the hip-hop and basketball culture of the 1990s, for cool and chic pieces, well cut, far from showy prints. .

Teddy jacket, Perfecto, bucket hat, fitted jogging or double-breasted suit, the BCBG streetwear line has 1 million followers on Instagram and multiplies collaborations with Porsche, Clarks, Woolrich, Timberland, New Balance and rapper Drake.

Iconic jewelry on Fifth Avenue

After four years of work, the emblematic address of the venerable jewelry house founded in 1837, made famous by Audrey Hepburn in the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s and now owned by LVMH, will reopen on Friday April 28. Supervised by the architect Peter Marino, this flagship of 10,000 square meters on ten floors, called “The Landmark”, promises to be spectacular. It will notably house an art gallery and the Blue Box Cafe… for breakfast. A perfect setting for the first of the American luxury brands, known for its solitaire diamonds and its key-shaped pendants. We dream of leaving with a blue box wrapped in satin…

Where to find a beautiful vintage piece?

From flea markets to retro haute couture, vintage is popular and specialty stores have multiplied. In the East Village, the 9e Rue concentrates a good number of them. You’ll find the perfect vintage Levi’s 501 at Duo NYC (324 E, 9th Street).

For the 1980s Knicks basketball jersey or Yankees shorts with jacket, head to Mr. Throwback (437 E, 9th Street).

For pre-1960s ready-to-wear, jewelry and accessories, see 9th St. Vintage (346 E, 9th Street). The Quality Mending Co. is one of the oldest of its kind. Its boss, Oliver Harkness, hunts across the United States. There are mainly men’s clothes (rock t-shirts, leather jackets, etc.) and a selection of Moscot sunglasses (329 Bowery).

In Soho, The RealReal specializes in second-hand luxury. The “Archive Collection” is presented with commentary on iconic pieces and designer bios (80 Wooster Street).
