The Amap festival (association for the maintenance of peasant agriculture) took place in a great conviviality, and without showers, last Wednesday, in the courtyard of the Jean-Macé school, place Joseph-Verseille. This was organized by volunteers from the columérine association, supported by three students from the IUT Paul Sabatier in Toulouse.
The principle of an Amap is to create a direct link between producers and consumers who commit to buying a basket of 3, 6 or 8 kg of seasonal products for a year at a fair price paid in advance. The first Amaps appeared in France in the 2000s. That of Colomiers, 15 years ago. Its president, Patrick Maury, is enthusiastic: “If the attraction for this form of consumption of organic products or products from sustainable agriculture has undergone a marked increase during the Covid-19 crisis, the number of members has returned to its figure before this episode. The members (a hundred families) reside mainly in the west of Toulouse. The Columérins represent 80% of them”. Diana has been a member for two years: “I am of Argentine origin, for the moment I buy a package of veal or beef once a month. I cook a lot and I also freeze. I am very happy with this principle”.
A dozen producers from the Haute-Garonne department were present last Wednesday to have their products tasted raw or cooked on site for the occasion. Thus, on the stalls appeared honey, jams, fruits, vegetables, poultry, beef, sheep’s cheese… A guest of honor this year: the Gourmet Truck whose chef, Xavier Martin, enchanted the taste buds of “Amapiens” and other visitors of refined and tasty dishes made from the products offered today by Amap.
Two guitarists from the group “Pompe Up The Swing” enlivened the party with gypsy jazz tunes.
Amap de Colomiers also takes part in the Other Market (next date: Sunday 18 June, Allée des Droits de l’Enfant) and the plant fair in the spring at Parc Duroch.
