Blueberries could protect middle-aged people from developing dementia, the study found.
According to The Sun, patients with memory problems between the ages of 50 and 65 who took blueberry powder for 12 weeks showed better mental test results.
Blueberries are rich in trace elements and antioxidants called anthocyanins. They not only give blueberries color, but also protect them from radiation and infections.
Professor Robert Crikorian of the University of Cincinnati in the United States said that previous cognitive studies in older adults have shown a beneficial effect on blueberries and suggest that they may be effective in younger people with insulin resistance.
“Alzheimer’s disease, like all chronic diseases of aging, develops over many years from middle age,” the professor said. “These properties, which help blueberries survive, also provide benefits such as reducing inflammation, improving metabolism and improving energy production.”
