Discover ‘s Fachl Salzburg: The Ultimate Destination for Homemade Products and Regional Souvenirs

‘s Fachl Salzburg in Kaigasse opens at 10 a.m. The vacuum cleaner robot Rudolf, the master craftsman Marie and her mother are already busy in the store before 9 a.m. and are preparing everything for the rush. The store offers local producers a platform to sell their products. Especially for start-ups ‘s Fachl a cheap way to offer your goods.

According to master craftsman Marie, the DIY boom is still basically there, but it is leveling off. Many people have ideas about what they could make, cook or build themselves, but only a few find the time to do it. “That’s why we’re here. People can buy homemade things from us,” explains Marie in the SALZBURG24 interview.

Earn money with DIY products in Salzburg

Around 400 manufacturers from all over Austria, but primarily from the federal state, have currently rented space in the Salzburg shop and are earning money with their homemade products. For around half of the tenants, ‘s Fachl is a springboard into self-employment, for the others the sale of their DIY products is a nice additional income. “A few, for example, are looking for employment during maternity leave that gives them additional fulfillment and sell the products,” says the master craftsman.

Selling through ‘s Fachl is also an additional source of income for tenant Sandra. She uses dried flowers to make decorations to suit every season. However, before renting, Sandra was already self-employed with her own flower shop. She sees the sale in Kaigasse as an addition.

‘s Fachl sells breast cups and hangover pills

Pottery cups with breasts, handmade soaps or cutting boards – the selection of products on offer in ‘s Fachl is large. Clothing, jewelry and culinary goods sell best, says Marie. The gin boom is decreasing again, and “healthy treats such as energy balls or freeze-dried fruit” are on the rise.

In addition to the classic DIY products, the specialists always have unusual products in their range. They are currently selling a so-called hangover pill that a pharmacist originally produced for his party-loving daughters. Another special feature: A few years ago a lady produced silk bed linen for dolls. However, this is no longer for sale.

Can anyone sell homemade products in ‘s Fachl?

‘s Fachl is a family business. Father, mother and daughter Marie are on duty and together they also decide which products are offered in the store. “This gives us a great mix of different goods. This is important in order to appeal to as many end customers as possible,” says Marie. To ensure a broad mix, the family also has a waiting list for manufacturers. Otherwise they would “only offer jewelry.”

Sometimes the specialists also have to reject products entirely if, for example, the manufacturers do not have a trade license. “It’s not that easy. “You can’t just make something at home and then display the things here,” warns the Salzburg native.

Tourists look for regional souvenirs

Around 60 percent of customers are locals who regularly browse the shop. The rest of the customers are “more upscale tourists, mostly from England,” says Marie and goes on to explain, “They don’t want to buy a typical Mozartkugel or a magnet, but rather regional souvenirs.” But Fachl’s best customers are the shop owners and employees: Inside, probably ourselves. “We leave a lot of money because we stand behind the products we exhibit,” laughs Marie in conclusion.
