The weather is wonderful and should remain so for the time being. The bathing season is open everywhere and people are thronging to the lakes and outdoor pools. There are all sorts of eye-catchers in the form of tattoos, which – after months of hiding under layers of clothing – now want to be out in the sun and admired. It’s amazing how many people – including those who were young – once had colored ink pierced into their skin.

Sometimes I would like to know whether, for example, one or the other Chinese character has been reproduced correctly, what it is supposed to mean and whether the bearer of the character knows this himself, because a) he has studied Sinology or b) is simply enthusiastic about the Middle Kingdom or c) only gave the tattoo artist the brief instruction: “Do something with Chinese characters”. Tattoos are definitely eye-catchers.
