Lyon BD 16e edition: June 12 & 13

From June 11 to 13, the 16th edition of the Lyon event will be held. Almost entirely face-to-face, the festival offers meetings with more than 60 authors as well as conferences, performances, signing sessions and exhibitions. In total, more than 80 events are scheduled in 60 cultural venues in the city. At the head of this ambitious festival, real comic book stars such as Riad Sattouf (“The Arab of the Future”, “Les Cahiers d’Esther”), Zep (“Titeuf”), Joan Sfar (“Le chat du Rabbi ”), Florence Cestac (A father, a mother – a wonderful family, mine”).

A political edition

Through the exhibition “African comic strip scenes”, the festival intends to honor cartoonists from the African continent, largely unknown in France. 4e edition of the comic strip festival at Malbrouck castle: June 12 & 13

The Malbrouck castle in Manderen is hosting the 4th edition of its comic strip festival on June 12 and 13, 2021. 25 authors, screenwriters and cartoonists participate all weekend in conferences and signing sessions. A book village offering first editions and second-hand comics for sale will also be set up.

The festival takes place in parallel with the “Asterix the European” exhibition, to be discovered until November 28, 2021 in the heart of the castle. Objects, paintings and sculpture dating from the Roman period stand alongside statues and figurines of characters designed by Albert Uderzo. The exhibition, imagined for young and old, invites you to meet comics, its creators and its characters in a reconstituted Gallic village.

The 25e comic strip meeting in Amiens: every weekend in June

The 25 years of this annual meeting should have been celebrated in June 2020, but the health crisis requires, it had been replaced by a magazine distributed free throughout the city. The festival is back this year in force for the next 3 weekends in June, in the 5000m2 of the Halle Freyssinet. A gigantic space where exhibitions, workshops, meetings and live drawings can take place.

Discover in particular “The Tree and the Way”, an exhibition around the work of Cyril Pedrosa, author of the festival poster which offers a retrospective of his work, or “Picasso or the freedom of the poet”, an exhibition which brings to work the imaginations of authors and students of the BD Trades License, inventing echoes between Picasso’s work and poetry.

Also go and meet the hundred or so cartoonists present throughout this month dedicated to comics, such as Dorio Fabrizio (“The Wandering God), Roxanne Moreil (” The Golden Age “) or Zazim (” Men’s skin ”).

10e Biennale of 9e art in Cherbourg-en-Contentin: May 28 to August 29

The mission of the Cherbourg-en-Cotentin Biennale since 2002 is to present to the public major artists of the 9th art through major thematic exhibitions. And this 10e edition is dedicated to the work of the American Will Eisner, and is part of the continuity of the cycle on American creation launched during the 2017 biennial.

Born in 1917 and died in 2005, he is the creator of the graphic novel concept and the investigator character Spirit. The exhibition for the biennale offers a retrospective of the artist’s work centered on the theme of New York, his hometown, through around 80 visuals including originals and collectibles, which thus retrace the journey of the artist. ‘most influential American comic book author’.

One of the highlights of this biennial remains the “Voyages immobiles” festival, which will close the event for 3 days, from August 27 to 29, 2021. Embark on the world of pop culture through exhibitions, a trade fair. book, offbeat sets, cosplay, E-sport and many animations.

28e comics and illustration meetings in Bastia: September 16 to 19

Scheduled to take place in March, the Bastia comic strip festival in Corsica will finally take place in mid-September, during four rich and dense days of meetings, debates, shows, workshops and screenings. Among the invited authors, find Cy (“Radium Girls”), Marion Fayolle (“The tenderness of stones”) or Gaëtan Dorémus (“Empty fridge”).

There will also be 11 exhibitions to discover, including “The arch between the boxes”, at the Museum of Bastia, which shows and understands the affinities between the 1is and the 9e art. Buildings, architecture and design are indeed omnipresent in the comics. The exhibition, designed by Raphaël Lerays, an architect by training, brings together album plates accompanied by photographs.
