Netflix Series Addicts Emily in Paris have undoubtedly heard their music in two key moments of season 2.
Charlotte Fever is the rising duo and their latest EP, Erotic, is reissued these days on vinyl with, as a bonus, a superb cover of When the city sleeps, an old Niagara tube.
Their electro, both dreamlike and sensual, is inspired by the sounds of the past without denying the present. It is Cassandra, originally from Chartres, who introduces us to the universe of this bewitching duo.
Irène Drésel, from Dreux, selected at the Venice Film Festival

Was it in Chartres that you discovered your artistic flair??
Yes, when I was little, my father always listened to the Beatles in his car. I sang with him. I took classical guitar lessons at the conservatory of Lèves, and I gave my first concerts in front of the cathedral and Place Marceau during the Fête de la Musique with my high school group.

When did you form the band??
Four years ago. With Alexander (Editor’s note: the other half of the group), we wanted to create fun and spontaneous music, without the fuss. At the beginning, we sang in English, and we realized that it was a bit silly. I’m a fan of Serge Gainsbourg and Daniel Balavoine, and the Frenchman finally won. This is no longer an obstacle to making yourself known abroad. English is no longer the only language to express oneself in pop.

Musically, you combine a retro touch with more modern sounds.
Exactly, we are fans of the synth sounds of the 80s, but we are not stuck in those years. We are still in 2022.
Which artists made you want to get started??
In terms of music, Daft Punk, which we love, but also Sébastien Tellier or Polo & Pan. For the lyrics, Serge Gainsbourg above all. We want to talk about sexuality in a poetic way, without being vulgar. But we have other influences. When we compose, we think of other media, like photography or cinema.

How do you manage to play such dreamy music in this very complicated context??
We don’t want to talk too much about negative things. With our songs, we want to forget everyday life, take the public to places they don’t know.
In Chartres, classical music is in the spotlight this January
On your EP, you cover a Niagara song, When the city sleeps. An influence for you??
I’ve always been a fan of Niagara. He is a model for us. I wish so much that Muriel Mureno (Editor’s note: the singer of the duo) tell me what she thinks of our recovery. We interpret it with our sound, our notes. Their songs say things in a simple, clear way. It’s very complicated to do that.

Do you manage to give concerts despite the resumption of the epidemic??
We were lucky, we managed to chain the concerts. We have one scheduled for February 2 in Lyon. Cancellations mainly concern artists who fill the large halls.
Eure-et-Loir: here is what awaits you culturally in 2022
Do you prefer the stage or the studio??
A concert is always a party and a surprise. We are only two, but we take care of our show, with special choreographies. We like Claude François shows?! It’s a special moment, we have to be on our 31. We love glitter?!
How did you end up in the series Emily in Paris??
Our label, Riptide Records, came up with our songs. The producers flashed on our music, and took two of our songs: JTM and Kunigonde. I’m very happy, because they illustrate two key moments of season 2. It has aroused real interest, because the number of streams has soared. When I hear a track in a series, I “shazame” it to find out the name of the track, but I didn’t know everyone did that?!
The resurrection of the L’Paille à sons festival, in Chartres!
Will we see you soon in concert in Chartres??
I would love to, would this be my dream?! I contacted the L’Paille à sons festival, as well as Chartrestivales. But they take a lot of tribute bands. It’s complicated to find concerts in Chartres with your own music. But I don’t lose hope.
