Jakarta –
The cute electric car Honda e is reportedly about to be euthanized in Europe. Honda is no longer opening orders for the Honda e.
Quoted from TopGear, Thursday (14/12/2023) Honda’s mission to introduce electrification has been successful. “Many consumers are new to this brand with its distinctive design, advanced technology and typical Honda driving dynamics,” said Honda.
The Honda e was introduced in 2020 to capitalize on the growing electric city car market in Europe and Japan. Even though this tiny electric car has been introduced by Honda Prospect Motor in Indonesia, it has not yet been sold on the market.
For your information, the Honda e is equipped with a 35.5 kWh lithium-ion battery which can cover a distance of up to 220 kilometers. Even though it is relatively small, this figure seems sufficient for an urban car.
The manufacturer has equipped the vehicle with an electric motor capable of producing 154 PS of power and peak torque of 315 Nm. These specifications are channeled to the rear wheels via an automatic transmission.
Honda claims that the Honda e can go from zero to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds. Meanwhile, there are two driving modes, namely standard and sport.
Quoted from Carbuzzin its first two years of sales–2021 and 2022–Honda reportedly sold around 5,500 units of the Honda e in Europe, or half of its annual target of 10,000 deliveries.
Bookings for the vehicle have closed in Europe and the UK, while a notice on Honda Japan’s website states production of the Honda e will end in January 2024. The Honda e will then be discontinued once production sells out.
It is not yet known who the replacement for this Honda e will be. But since introducing the Honda e, the Japanese car giant has added the e:Ny1 electric SUV to its European lineup.
Company executives have confirmed that there are no plans to produce a second-generation Honda e–or any other similar-sized electric vehicle–because of the growing popularity of SUVs.
“There will never be another car the size of the Honda E. I can say that with confidence,” Rebecca Adamson, boss of Honda’s UK car division, told British publication Autocar earlier this year.
