One of those who is said to be disappointed with Netanyahu is the Israeli military and intelligence. The root of disappointment with Netanyahu was when the PM seemed to blame Israeli intelligence and the military for Israel conceding to the Hamas attack on October 7.

Netanyahu’s statement was uploaded to his X account, but he immediately deleted it.

Netanyahu, in his since-deleted tweet, said the failure of Israel’s intelligence chief and army resulted in Hamas attacks killing 1,400 of its citizens.

He stated that there was an inaccurate assessment from intelligence which stated that Hamas had been tamed and was preparing to carry out negotiations, as quoted from Al Jazeera.

Netanyahu’s statement also caused unrest within his cabinet. A number of Israeli political leaders then attacked Netanyahu for using the war between Israel and Hamas only for political maneuvers.

The anger of a number of politicians who had supported the war cabinet made Netanyahu delete his tweet and apologize, stating, “I was wrong.”

Middle East and North Africa political analyst from Chatham House Yossi Mekelberg said the incident highlighted the increasingly gaping cracks in the political and military institutions of Netanyahu’s cabinet.

Netanyahu’s capacity was then questioned to lead a major war sincerely without putting his political interests above national security.

“To say he failed would be the understatement of the year,” Yossi said as quoted by Al Jazeera.

“This is a very difficult military operation so you need a responsible prime minister and no one (in the cabinet) trusts Netanyahu. That is the main topic in this cabinet,” he continued his explanation.

One of those who is said to no longer trust Netanyahu is former Israeli defense minister Benny Gantz. He is said to have urged Netanyahu to retract his statement on social media.

Gantz also asked Netanyahu to provide full support to the military and Israel’s domestic investigative bureau, Shin Bet.

“(Netanyahu) is not interested in security, he doesn’t care about the hostages, only politics,” said former Israeli defense minister and now Netanyahu’s opposition, Avigdor Lieberman.

This fierce commotion is said to be the latest sign of tension within Israel’s political institutions, even in the war cabinet.

“This is just the tip of the iceberg of what will happen to Israel after the conflict is over. He is preparing the material for his argument,” said former Israeli foreign ministry director, Alon Lien.
