Instagram, Snapchat or TikTok are the social networks par excellence that offer a wide range of filters to “decorate” the reality that is shared on them. The filters they offer range from the one that changes the background of the scene for another in a paradisiacal beach or the one that transforms a simple mortal face into a kind of almost perfect mythological being – assuming, of course, that aesthetic perfection exists.
For Aneece Malik, a 32-year-old man from Whitefield, Manchester, the filters were a lifeline to make him feel comfortable posting pictures of himself on social media. In fact, due to his pressing insecurity, he was using filters for a long time, until he decided to have surgery on his face to change his appearance.
Aneece says that undergoing lip, eyebrow, jaw, chin and cheek touch-ups have helped her look better, “better” than many of those filters she used before.
The man, who now lives in Antalya, Turkey, has invested a whopping £ 130,000 on touch-ups, some of which have to continue to be done every two months, as is the case with anti-wrinkle injections.
Despite this, the economic effort has been worth it, he says, because now his followers on social networks have skyrocketed and he also draws attention on the street.
