Discolys in the living room with Philips Hue and Spotify

This autumn’s major consumer electronics fair, IFA in Berlin, is canceled due to Covid-19, but still Signify (the company behind Philips Hue) yesterday held a so-called Digital Media Event for the press with the subtitle ‘IFA 2021 Edition’.

And even though we had to settle for a digital presentation of all the news, yesterday’s event offered the largest number of new lamps and bulbs we have seen from the smart-light manufacturer for a while.

Whether you are relaxing on the couch, visiting friends or having a party with a suitable playlist, you will have a new experience of your favorite music and the perfect atmosphere with the integration of Spotify and Philips Hue, promises the manufacturer Signify. (Photo: Signify)

Philips Hue + Spotify = Sant

But before we get to the specific product news, we will first consider the new integration of Philips and Spotify, which was undoubtedly the presentation’s most interesting and surprising news!

The new Philips Hue + Spotify integration simply mixes light and music together.

Once you have linked your Philips Hue and Spotify accounts, the Philips Hue app retrieves metadata from every song played, regardless of device. And then an advanced light script is created, so that the Philips Hue light not only reacts to the beat, but also the genre and mood.

In the Philips Hue app’s new tab “Synchronize”, you will be able to adjust the brightness, intensity and color palette of the lights to your liking.

The Philips Hue + Spotify integration will be rolled out globally from 1 September 2021 as “early access” to users of version 4 of the Philips Hue app. From October 2021, the function will be a permanent part of Philips Hue.

Among the many product innovations is that all Philips Hue filament bulbs with E27 connector are now also available in White ambiance, which makes it possible to switch between warm and cold white light. These smart LED bulbs, which look like old-fashioned incandescent bulbs, can be lit with blue / cold light when concentrating, but can now also be dimmed to golden tones.

In addition, the iconic Philips Hue bulbs across the portfolios White, White ambiance and White and color ambiance are now also available in 1100 and 1600 lumens (equivalent to a 75 W and a 100 W bulb).

A brand new lamp is the Philips Hue Surimu ceiling panel, which is mounted in the ceiling and is available in both a rectangular and square design. Unlike the existing Philips Hue Aurelle panels, the new Surimu panels can shine in all colors.
