Russian President Vladimir Putin can announce victory over Ukraine on his birthday – October 7. It is on this day that the master of the Kremlin will celebrate his 70th anniversary. This opinion was expressed by the Russian oppositionist and former world chess champion Garry Kasparov in an interview for “Obozrevatel”.
The Grandmaster noted that dictators are very fond of anniversaries and any “remarkable” dates. He also added that the Kremlin well understands that they cannot win the war. “I think there’s a certain common sense that’s set in there that they can’t win the war to the extent they’ve planned. Therefore, they must fix the territorial gains up to this point, entrench themselves and negotiate from a position of strength, as Putin believes,” explained Kasparov.
The events of the past few days, when Ukraine, with the help of US missile systems for salvo fire, achieved some success in slowing down the Russian offensive, caused the occupiers to panic because things were not going as planned, Kasparov said. According to him, the liberation of Kherson could become a turning point in the war.
A month ago, in an interview for the FREEDOM project, Kasparov predicted that the war in Ukraine will be the last for Russia, which is threatened with disintegration and transformation.
