Disastrous start for the Colorado Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche remain a contender for a Stanley Cup for a few more years. These are not two false starts that will ruin this reputation. On the other hand, there is reason to worry about a particular fact which came up twice in these tough defeats.

Alexandar Georgiev‘s atrocious performance must not go down well in Colorado right now. The summer of 2024 was full of options among goalkeepers and we opted for inaction. Instead, the organization promoted Justus Annunen to a permanent assistant position. From the pre-season calendar, the signs of weakness from Alexandar Georgiev predicted a difficult start to the regular season. After three starts, the Avalanche goalie in preseason boasted a record of no wins and two losses. His average rose to 4.03 with an efficiency of 0.863. His setbacks continue at the start of the season with the Avalanche.

After his atrocious start yesterday, Alexandar Georgiev is now 0-1 in two starts. His average stands at 4.69 with an efficiency of 0.680. At least, “it is constant” would say those who prefer to make the whole thing ridiculous. Because it is! The organization’s quick response after Georgiev’s first mediocre start was to claim Kaapo Kahkonen via NHL waivers. We should give the former Jets goalie a chance very soon considering that Annunen hasn’t done much better in relief.

We will have to pull ourselves together quickly. The Avalanche have scored 4 goals in each of their two games to start the season. And unfortunately, the organization was unable to win a single match since it gave up 14 goals to its opponents. Kahkonen may be an intriguing option, but he remains a claimed waiver option and doesn’t have the makings of a #1 if Georgiev doesn’t get his act together quickly.
