Disassembly of the Steam Deck console shows its interior, Valve offers spare parts

Valve itself has released a video showing the disassembly of the Steam Deck console, which can be useful not only for the curious, but also for possible future repairs or just maintenance, because despite the best dust filter, cooling can become clogged over time.

And as you can see right at the beginning of the video, the Steam Deck console won’t be that hard to disassemble, since it only has two Phillips screwdrivers and tweezers ready to fit.

However, at the beginning of the video there is also a warning that although we have the right to disassemble our Steam Deck and look into it, the manufacturer itself does not highly recommend it. He adds that the console is full of sealed hardware that was not designed to be replaceable by the customer himself. So dismantling could damage something.

As an example, however, there is damage to the battery, which could then ignite or explode, so it is clear that Valve is simply sure in all cases and wants to discourage especially inexperienced owners who would like to drill in their console. This is evidenced by other warnings against damage from static electricity or another warning that they are not really joking and that damaged Li-ion batteries can actually ignite.

The video also shows the opening of the already unscrewed back cover, which is enough to catch the nails and tear them off, so we don’t have any annoying to go around the joint with a pick, as in the case of mobile phones. Then we immediately learn that the video shows a pre-production version of the console and the final ones will be a little different, but not significantly.

Then we learn the most important information from this video, namely that Valve will make spare parts available, namely at least thumb sticks, SSDs and perhaps others.

The hardware in this console is otherwise fastened with screws, and then we have the well-known flat cables with the appropriate connectors, that is, nothing special and, above all, nothing that would prevent us from disassembling. In addition, the joysticks are immediately accessible, but the SSD is located under the EMI shield, which must be unscrewed, but then we have a standard M.2 2230 module secured with one screw. But what we do not know is whether the battery is stuck in its position or not, because in time it will of course be one of the candidates for replacement.
