YouTube blogger Jacob R disassembled the Sony PlayStation Portal portable gaming device to assess its repairability and also examine the internal contents. He did not act very carefully, but this was enough to draw the conclusion that repairing the gadget was problematic.

The Sony PlayStation Portal is not a stand-alone portable game console – the device is designed to connect to the PlayStation 5 console and stream games from it. On the one hand, this helped reduce the cost of the device to $200, on the other hand, it received a modest Qualcomm processor labeled SG4150P. This is probably Snapdragon 4 Gen 1, but in the console its capabilities are limited only to broadcasting images and processing data from the game controller. Perhaps in the future, enthusiasts will figure out how to fully unleash its potential.

But the maintainability of the Sony PlayStation Portal turned out to be a real problem. It was possible to completely disassemble the device by simply heating it and peeling off the display from the body – and a battery (4370 mAh, 16.9 Wh) was immediately discovered under the screen. This may not be the best solution, because it is not recommended to expose batteries to high temperatures, and it will be extremely difficult to replace a failed battery on your own.

All this did not bother Sony PlayStation followers: the portable console, which went on sale on November 15 only in some regions, immediately found itself in short supply – it was sold out almost everywhere.
