Erik Karlsson’s 1,000th NHL game was not at all what he dreamed of.
Pittsburgh lost to Boston and may thus have difficulty making the playoffs.
– It stinks that we lost, but we can’t do anything other than try to win the two games we have left and then we’ll see how far it goes, says the jubilee after the 6-4 blow.
It started with a big anniversary for Erik Karlsson i PPG Paints Arena.
He started – as the eighteenth Swede in history – his 1,000th NHL game and was celebrated with a long ceremony on the ice before the first drop.
But then the fun was over.
Boston took the lead with two quick goals midway through the second period and then never relinquished it, despite the Penguins struggling creditably and a few times coming close to catching up.
“Can’t do anything else”
In the end, the visitors won 6-4 – and regained the lead in the Atlantic division from Florida.
This means that the Penguins, who before the night’s practice had scored in ten games in a row, again fell below the mark and no longer control their own destiny.
– It stinks that we lost, but we by no means played a bad match. We just ran out of fuel and energy, says Erik, who gilded the 1000th match with an assist.
– Now it is as it is, we can do nothing but try to win the two games we have left. Then we’ll see how far it goes.
Rickard Rakell and Marcus Pettersson were also noted for each assist, while Linus Ullmark stopped 28 shots in Boston’s box.
