Users are greatly disappointed when it is known that the highly anticipated ‘Starfield’ may not support Korean. Starfield is an open-world action RPG with a space background, and is the new work of Bethesda, which produced famous games such as ‘The Elder Scrolls’ and ‘Fallout’.
According to the language support guide on Bethesda’s official website, Starfield supports English, Japanese, French, German, Spanish, Chinese (simplified), Polish, Italian, and Portuguese. The languages of Japan and China, which are East Asian countries, are provided, but there is no Korean language.
Users react to this appearance by bursting with anger and not being able to understand. Users continue to criticize Bethesda, which was stingy with Korean language in the past, for example, saying that it is actually an anti-Korean game company, and is even holding a campaign to sign for additional Starfield language support.
Even recent indie game companies are increasing their Korean language support, so the lack of Korean language in the super-large game ‘Starfield’ is all the more regrettable.
Representatively, Re-Logic, a developer of Terraria, announced on the 6th that it is working on additional Korean language updates for the PC version. This is about 10 years since the game was released.
Terraria is a side-scrolling sandbox action RPG, featuring unique dot graphics and solid gameplay.
A Terraria official said, “We are meticulously checking that the text does not exceed the UI. It will take a considerable amount of time to complete the Koreanization, but I will definitely check the completion of the work, such as additional parts and bug fixes.”
In addition, various indie games such as ‘Hunt or Hunt’ and ‘Empires of the Undergrowth’ have been localized in Korean.
This response to the Korean language is analyzed to be because the Korean market has grown into a sufficiently attractive market.
According to the ‘2022 Korea Game White Paper’ released by the Korea Creative Content Agency, Korea’s PC game market is ranked 3rd and the console game market is also ranked 8th. It also occupies a significant position in the console and PC game markets, which are the main stages of ‘Starfield’.
‘Alden Kroll’, a product designer of ‘Valve’, which operates Steam, said that if Korean language is supported for a game, sales of the game increase by about 140% compared to the previous one. This is the highest rise except when English, the world’s official language, was supported.
On the other hand, at the ‘Ubisoft Showcase Forward’ held yesterday (13th) Korean time, it was confirmed that all titles scheduled to be released by Ubisoft for XBOX support Korean.
Users who confirmed the Korean language support of various games such as ‘The Crew Motorfest’ and ‘Assassin’s Creed Mirage’ at the showcase said, “Isn’t Bethesda seeing and feeling something?” ‘ is sending a colder gaze.
