Already in Q2 Alexander Albon found his Waterloo during the qualification for the Bahrain Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver was unable to impress in the second part of qualifying and missed the point: P12. He gave in four tenths of a second to Max Verstappen on the same tire in that session. A big difference on such a small track, team boss Christian Horner also knows.
“It’s frustrating not to see Alex in Q3. The small differences on this circuit mean that the smallest mistakes can cost you a lot,” says Horner, who despite the frustrating result still has hope that his second driver, who has been under a magnifying glass, can make progress during the race.
“The team will help him understand what happened during qualifying,” said Horner. “I am therefore convinced that he can make good progress during the race on Sunday and make his way through the field,” said the team principal. He thinks there is a good chance of success for both Albon and Verstappen.
“Since it is possible to overtake other cars here in Sakhir on this layout, we aim for a good race with a good number of points for both Verstappen and Albon.”
