The 56th Police Station of Peñaflor, on November 2, seemed to have had a successful morning. At around 7:20 a.m., IAPA officials managed to recover a vehicle that had been stolen 11 days earlier, on October 22.
Specifically, they found a Ford Edge SUV, year 2017, abandoned and without occupants, hindering a car exit from a home.
According to the procedural details, accessed by BBCL Investiga, the vehicle was taken to the police station and parked in front of the police station. Immediately afterwards, the specialized personnel of the IAPA carried out the respective expert reports and, after that, the vehicle was ready to be delivered to the victim of the theft.
However, the unexpected happened: at 1:30 p.m., the non-commissioned officer on duty left the premises and noticed that the newly recovered vehicle was no longer there.
11 days and two robberies
According to the information to which this media had access, upon realizing the situation, the official quickly went to review the security cameras of the police station and confirmed that, in broad daylight, an hour and 15 minutes earlier, a The subject approached the Ford Edge, got in and stole it from the police unit that had recovered it hours before.
In simple, The vehicle was stolen twice in just 11 days. And, even worse, on this second occasion, while he was in the custody of the Carabineros.
However, this is not an unprecedented situation, since a case with similar characteristics was recorded in August of last year, precisely in a neighboring commune: Talagante.
During the background check, the police detected that the stolen SUV belongs to FJAT, an official of the Public Ministry. Although he is an assistant lawyer for the Western Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office, according to information compiled by this means, the official periodically acts as a prosecutor in different hearings as a surrogate.
Patent changed
According to police reports, the discovery last Thursday was generated after a call from a Peñaflor neighbor who, that morning, reported a vehicle blocking the parking exit from his home.
Given this, they went to the scene and detected a vehicle with a license plate, which corresponded to that model, from the year 2019. But when checking the chassis number, which is usually visible in the lower part of the windshield, they noticed that said number referred to another unit from the year 2017.
Then, they verified that it was actually the vehicle that belonged to the aforementioned Prosecutor’s Office official, who had reported the theft days before in Quinta Normal. Meanwhile, the license plate belonged to another person residing in the traditional Lomas de San Andrés sector, in Concepción.
Summary in Carabineros
After the second theft of the vehicle, Carabineros formally reported what happened to the Talagante Local Prosecutor’s Office. Meanwhile, when contacted about what happened, the victim did not respond to this media’s queries.
When asked by BBCL Investiga, Carabineros de Chile confirmed what happened and indicated that An internal investigation was initiated to establish possible administrative responsibilities.
Likewise, they indicated that all the information related to this case was made available to the Public Ministry.
